School Meeting Update
So I went to the meeting at the school this morning and it went really well. I am so impressed and happy with how it turned out. The teacher and I got to the meeting first so we were discussing my sons test and classroom performance before the principal or the school psychologist got there. I was so impressed at how the meeting was really a meeting about agreement and wanting to help my son. It was not negative or attacking in nature at all which is always a concern in that type of meeting. I had noticed that my sons self esteem has been dropping this year which is huge to me since he's only 8. His teacher has noticed this also. As smart and wonderful as my son is he has trouble with organization and it was nice to hear that they have a program in place where they can work with the students on an individual basis to provide instruction on organization. They will work with him on understanding why it is important and why he has to do things even if he doesn't want to and to provide a fun rewards system for him. Not just your typical rewards either. My son LOVES science. We have just tons of books on the human body, planets, animals everything you can think of. We have even been to a physics performance put on by the University of Minnesota. One of the things the principal actually suggested was that they have access to something online that has fun science activities and contests that could be used as a reward. Giving him access to these science contests. I truly think this will work because not only are they trying to teach him necessary study skills they are working to treat him as an individual and promote his creativity and critical thinking not stifle it and make him fit into a mold. I have come out of this meeting re-energized and recharged on how positive a potentially negative situation has come out.
